Top 3 Sci-Fi Shows

Sci-fi shows are all awesome. With all the different aliens, special effects, and main characters it's just fun to watch anytime. My all time favorites are Stargate SG-1, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Fringe.

Stargate Sg-1 will always rank number one on any of my favorite TV lists. The main reason I actually started watching the show is because the female lead has the same name as me. The violence is pretty fun to watch too, because they're using all sorts of high-tech, advanced weaponry that they got from alien races. And the members of SG-1 are always fighting other races so they can save the Earth.

Star Trek: TNG is also at the top of my lists because Captain Picard is the most amazing bald man of all time. Just like in Stargate the members of the Enterprise use advanced weapon, so they can protect their home planet from evil alien races. And in both shows the members of each team search the galaxy for new races that can help them technologically as well as help them protect their home planet.

Fringe is the newest sci-fi show that has gotten my attention. Again it's all about saving earth from forces of evil, but in this show they never leave the planet. Agent Dunham along with a few others search the planet for the man who's trying to destroy it with biological weapons.

In all these shows the main characters are trying to protect the entire planet from destruction. That to me makes for some good TV. Even though all the shows have violence in them, it seems to be for the right reason. Protect the people and save the planet.

Blades of Glory

Blades of Glory was indeed a funny movie. Then again, almost anything that has Will Ferrell in it will be. The main selling point for this movie seemed to be two male ice skaters preforming together. Something, to the best of my knowledge, has never been done before in a movie or real life.

The routines that were done in this movie were definitely something else. Even though you could tell they were all fake and done with harnesses they looked cool. All the jumping and spinning around made me get dizzy just watching.

Even though there are no other movies with a story like this one, there are still some that people will enjoy. Anchorman for instance is another movie starring Will Ferrell with a similar kind of humor throughout. Both of them are awesome movies in my opinion, and you should go see both of them.

P.S. The best part of Blades of Glory is when the hot dog vendor holds up a hot dog bun with two hot dogs in it and says, " Does this look normal to you?"

Left 4 Dead

One year ago in November a new first-person shooter game was released to game addicts everywhere in the U.S.A. The game was Left 4 Dead, and it took the nation by storm. There's one thing I bet you didn't know though. Also in 2008 a movie called Left 4 Dead was released with a bunch of unknowns as the actors.

By basing yet another movie on another video game, the business world must be doing pretty well for itself. The games designers sacrificing the own designs for this fun game just so they can make even more money on the movie. But have you heard of it? This was a straight to video movie. It never even saw the silver screen. Where's the money in something like that? Guess it wasn't the best business decision to make.

Set to release in 2010 is another Left 4 Dead movie that will hopefully do better than the first. I've heard of at least one version coming out. It would Will Smith and Sean Connery. There's also been talk of another one that could star Kevin Spacey, Halle Berry, and Matt Damon. The second one is fun because the actors would look like the characters from the game itself. But who really knows if they'll actually come out for sure.

As far as pure art and the Left 4 Dead movies goes, pretty sure it doesn't exist. Left 4 Dead is all about making money, and there doesn't seem to be any way to change that ever. Maybe when it was first created when it was just being played by the developers. Then, of course, came the thought of millions of dollars. Has there ever been a video game that was "pure art"? Who really knows?

To Consume or to Not Consume?

McDonalds is one of the most well known fast food places in the entire world. But does it really matter to you? Sure, the ads are mostly targeted towards all age groups, but is that enough to get people to buy something? Personally, the food they have in their commercials looks pretty tasty. To bad it isn't, and it's really bad for you too.

Others may believe all the hype though. That this amazing food has an amazing taste. Guess it's all just a personal opinion anyway. This isn't the only reason people across the world are fawning over it. This price of something at McDonalds is extremely cheap considering the prices of other places out there. A decent meal at McDonalds cost around $5.00, while a decent meal somewhere else will cost you around $6.00 or more.

The temptations for places like this are going to be everywhere. In the workplace, in your own home, and anywhere else you can possibly think of. When it comes to fast food places and not giving into temptations just make sure you think about all the facts. How much your spending on food everyday and the nutritional value of what you'll be ingesting. It all plays a big part in consumerism today.

Oldest Fossil: Fact of Fiction?

The oldest hominid fossil was found in Ethiopia. It is said to be about 4.4 million years old, and was named Ardi. She supposedly was 4 ft tall and weighed about 110 lbs. She also had opposable big toes that helped her to climb through trees, but she also had the ability to stand and walk on her two hind legs. The only question now is could she really be the "missing link"?

According to the article itself she is, but others would disagree with that. Some people commented that there really isn't any way to tell just how old she is, and that carbon dating isn't always right. Others say that the whole thing is just a fake, and that Lucy is a fake too. There's even one comment that simply states that evolution is fake.

One comment on this page was very intriguing said that this isn't a recent discovery that everyone thinks it is. Ardi was supposedly found 17 years ago. So, the question came up, "If they found Ardi 17 years ago, why are we just hearing about it now?" It's been over a week and there's still no response to this question. Will there ever be? What do you think the reason is why we didn't hear about it before?

Asian Stereotypes

Stereotypes of all kinds of people are everywhere. In schools, the workplace, and even in your own homes. The ones I've been hearing seem to be mostly about Asians. There's a lot of media references with these too.

The biggest stereotype about Asians is probably that they're all really smart, and that they excell mostly at math and science. An example of this would be the South Asian character in The Big Bang Theory, Rajesh Koothrappali. He is a physicist who works for a university.

Awesome cars seem to always be a must when you see young Asian drivers. Just watch The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Asians usually have the best everything when it comes to their cars. Best paint, rims, and bodies. Not to mention the sexy passenger next to them in the car.

Silly Animals, You Belong in the Zoo

For as long as I can remember it's been the "norm" to see wild animals in the zoo. Such is the case in the beginning of the movie Madagascar. It all begins with many small children, like in many zoos, surrounded around the lion exhibit.

A movie like this usually has a certain target group they want to bring in to see the movie. In this case it was children. Little did the people at Dreamworks now that this movie would bring in a variety of people. Ranging in ages from 3 all the way up to 70. I guess everyone like zoo animals.

I think there's one certain line that will stick with everybody who has seen this movie. "I like to move it, move it." Awesome music lyrics for a movie like this. This is probably one of the reasons why older generations came to see the movie. Just to see strange little lemurs sing a dance to that song. Crazy lemurs are the reason I went to see it. Those creatures were awesome

Maybe age really doesn't matter when it comes to animated movies. They can be fun for all ages. So, don't just think that because it's targeted more towards children that you can't go see it if you're in your twenties. Feel free to go see as many animated movies as you want now. A Rock Band for all Ages

The newest Rock Band has now been released to the public. It gives the younger generation a chance to hear older music, and at the same time it gives the older generations a chance to hear some of their favorite music again. It gives people of all ages a chance to enjoy things they both like at the same time.

This Rock Band isn't the only one on the market though. There are at least nine other versions of this game out there. Each includes a variety of different songs also. You could hear everything from ACDC, Metallica, and even a selection of country songs to choose from.

Perhaps, based on your experience with this game you'll be more likely to buy more games this company might come out with. You might even want to buy some of the CD's that these bands have put out. The main message here being... SPEND MORE MONEY!

Wow! That's a Lot of Money!

As far as everyone can tell, the movie box office does pretty well for itself. They make millions, if not billions, of dollars every year. What do they do with all that money? So, far in 2008 the total of money made in the box office is $9,189,500,000. If I had that much money I'd probably put it all in a pool and swim in it, because that's always been a dream of mine.

This year many movies came out that made millions of dollars, but only one made the top of the list. I'm pretty sure we all know which one it was, but if you don't the movie was Batman: The Dark Night. It has been put in second place in the all time box offices, behind Titanic of course, by making a whopping $530,723,626. It even made more than Star Wars. I think the reason it made so much is because one of the main characters died before it was released in theatres.

Number two on the list this year was Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. and number three was the newest Indiana Jones. All together they made$635,338,050 but on their own that's only about $316,500,000 each. I'm starting to sense a pattern here where movies based on comic books make the most money now-a-days. Maybe in 2009 we'll see more movies based on comic books than any other movies that aren't.

Making it's way to the very bottom of the list was I for India, and it only made $386 since it was release on January 11, 2008. I don't think that many people are that interested in documentaries anymore. I've never seen this movie, let alone heard of it. So, why didn't we see any previews for it? Maybe they didn't have enough money or they didn't want many people to see it. Who knows for sure?

I think in order for the box office to make all it's money they need to stop putting most documentaries in the theatres and put more comic based movies in. Maybe the biggest box office hit next year will be Watchmen. I know I can't rate for it to come out on March 6, 2009. Then again, I like almost every single movie I see. I guess I'll just have to wait to see if they can make as much money next year as they did this year, and to see what movie tops the charts. What do you think will be number one?

Not Your Average Superhero

While I was growing up I realized that all the Superhero's are good guys. After watching Hancock though, I started to see that that's not always true. Hancock, played by Will Smith, is a superhero who is hated by everyone. When he does try to help the citizens out he's cause millions of dollars worth of damage. That is until he helps Ray Embrey, played by Jason Bateman, who was trapped between two cars and a train is coming towards him. Hancock comes out of the sky and quickly moves his car out of the way, and is invited back to Embrey's house for dinner. As the days go on Embrey helps Hancock get his life together. Hancock goes to jail and is then asked by the chief of police to help them. He does and then the city loves him. Later we find out that Embrey's wife Mary, played by Charlize Theron, is also a superhero. She tells Hancock that they used to be married and that the longer they stay close to each other the more their powers will fade away. The end was definitely your typical happy ending, and they all lived happily ever after.

The movie was first release in theatres on July 2, 2008, but the DVD was just released November 25, 2008. I personally liked this movie a lot, because it was different than the stereotypical superhero movies where they start out good and in the end they're still good. I think this one was more realistic, because everyone had hard times even if they are superheros. Hancock had an alcohol problems and anger issues. He seemed more like all the rest of the people, but unlike everyone else he seeked help. In real life most people think they don't have problems and they just live their lives like it normal to hit your wife or drink until you can't remember what you did.

I think that because Hancock broke the norm of hero movies they should make more like it. Like with Batman, he's a normal man who makes himself super, but what if he ends up being addicted to some sort of drug or drugs. Even if they just give Superman an anger problem. I think a lot of people would like to go see those movies. Hancock was indeed my favorite superhero movie of all time. That is until Watchmen comes out next year. When that happens I'll have to compare and contrast both to figure out which one I like best. So, what do the rest of you think? Is Hancock a good movie because they give him real problems or should they keep all superhero movies the same?

Another Comic, Another Movie

Soon to be released Punisher: War Zone is yet another movie based on a comic book. The main difference I found out about this one is that it's not meant to be a sequel, and instead it's meant to "reboot" watches since the first one was released in 2004. It seems like a good idea to me. Now, I've never even seen the first one, but based one the pictures and other blogs I've found I think I might go rent it. The entire tag line for this movie, "vengeance has a name", intrigues me. I have heard the phrase before but never really believed it until now. Just the fact the Frank Castle's family was murdered and he was left all alone to find the men who did it. It just doesn't seem like your normal comic book story. In here the good guy turns bad but he's still a good guy? I'm not sure what to think of it completely.

Ray Stevenson is going to be playing the new punisher instead of Thomas Jane. Yet, once again I can't any assumptions since I never saw Jane act in the first one. I did see him in The Mist though, and I thought he did a really good job. As for Stevenson, I don't think I've ever seen him act in any movies or TV shows so I can't really say much. I guess what I can say is that I honestly can't wait till this movie comes out, because so far I've enjoyed every movie I've seen that was at one point a comic book. Whether it was published by DC or Marvel, I've liked them all, and I hope there are many more in the future.

Was a 3rd one really necessary?

It all started with Underworld, then Underworld "evolved", and now we're learning about the beginning? I assumed we already figured out why the Lycans and Death Dealers were at war, but I guess I was wrong. I personally liked the first two in the series, but I'm not sure if there was really any need for a third one. It's going to star most of the same people like Michael Sheen as Lucian, Bill Nighy as Viktor, and Shane Brolly as Kraven. The main difference in characters here is that Kate Beckinsale is missing. This is due to the fact that the new Underworld movie is being based on what happens before Viktor finds her. Now, instead of Selene being part of this movie we have Viktor daughter Sonja, being played by Rhona Mitra. I wonder how this will turn out with the fans of Underworld who liked Kate Beckinsale?

Since this movie is going to be based in earlier times without automatic weapons and such, we'll get to see how gruesome the battles will be and what weapons will be used instead. Will they use bow and arrows, spears, or stakes? Maybe they'll just fist fight all the time. Who knows yet? I hope we get to see them use the typical weapons for vampires and werewolves like silver bullets, crucifixes, and garlic. I guess I'll just have to wait and see to find out. I can't wait till Underworld:Rise of the Lycans is released on Jan. 23rd, and if I have wrong information on here let me know. Now I just have one last question, who thinks they should've kept Kate Beckinsale in the movie even if it's just a small part?

Extra, Extra.... Disney Movies are for Everyone

Who loves Disney movies? I do and I bet you do too. Whoever said that Disney movies were just for kids hasn't watched one in a while. Now, I love all the Disney movies even though I haven't seen them all. Lady and the Tramp being my all time number one on my list, then Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and last, but not least, is The Jungle Book (http://homepage.usask.ca/~jjs142/movielist.htm). This is just my top 5 though. So, of course I have more. Now, a question that has been in my mind for a while is which ones are better, the older ones or the newer ones? That is the question.

As far as Disney movies go, I'd have to say that they're not limited to small children anymore. They're meant to be seen by the whole family. From the youngest kids to the eldest grandparents. Family fun for everyone is filled in the hours and hours of Disney movies that are around these days. New ones are still being released each year too. So, your bored at home on a rainy day and can't figure out what to do, find a classic or newer Disney movie and watch it with everyone.

Not only are they fun to watch, but they help to teach kids manner also. You can learn table manners in Alice in Wonderland (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043274/) and Lady and the Tramp (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048280/), and how to be polite to others in almost every other movie by them. It's kinda sad to say this, but if you weren't around they'd be able to learn everything they need to know in life from Disney movies

Who's to say which ones are better between the newer movies and the older ones? Sure, it's been said that in the older ones are sexist against women and that they could be seen as encouraging drugs, but can anyone prove it. As far as I can tell with the newer Disney movies, there's nothing sexist or druggie about them. I think whoever started this rumor was on drugs themselves, and that they should have kept it to themselves. This is just my opinion though, and I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me.

I guess the new question I have for all you lovely readers is what are you going to have your children watch, Disney movies or something else? Also, should you have to teach your kids everything yourself or have a little help from Alice in Wonderland and Lady and the Tramp? My main point here is that our parents had us grow up watching things that they believed to be good for us, and I know when I have children I'll have watch Disney movies just like my mom did for me.

Another weekend, another "race-against-time" thriller

Will Eagle Eye break the definition we all know for race-against-time thrillers? I sure hope so considering all the hype they've been building. This supposed spectacular movie reunites actor Shia LaBeouf, director D.J. Caruso, and executive producer Steven Spielberg since their other favored blockbuster hit Disturbia. Will Eagle Eye be able to live up to Disturbia?

I'm sure we've all heard the phrase "It's a race-against-time thriller", but what does it really mean? Most action-packed, thriller movies I've seen have one thing in common. It's that silly little phrase that seems to be everywhere. Like Untracable or MIB II where the phrase was actually what was happening, and they needed to find the killer or the princess before something terrible happens. As far as I know, Eagle Eye is basically two people running around doing terrible things because someone is threatening them. Maybe someday they'll come up with real sayings that reflect what the movies are really about.

There was also a small reunion on the set of Eagle Eye. Shia LaBeouf, D.J. Caruso, and Steven Spielberg were once again able to come together and create another movie. The first movie that they did together, Disturbia, was in my opinion a great movie that kept you on the edge of your seat. Now, I haven't yet seen Eagle Eye, but it already has high standards to live up to in my mind. I hope the actor, director, and executive producer are once again able to wow me.

So, having said all that, I have to make a very serious choice, should I spend money to go see Eagle Eye in the theatre, or should I just wait till it comes out on DVD? Oh well, I'll go see sooner or later. I hope it lives up to my standards.
