Madagascar 2

Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa comes out on November 7th, 2008. In Madagascar one, four best friends, a lion, a zebra, giraffe and a hippo are getting shipped to a new zoo. However four penguins that are also leaving take over the boat and crash it into the island of Madagascar. Now finally the four friends and the four penguins are getting off the island, to bad they crash land their plane in Africa. Now they need a plan to get out, they’ve got an idea, it’s insane but might that be just what they need?

With all the furry animals and childish animation, Madagascar 2 seems to be aimed at young children; maybe age’s four to eleven. I’m 17 though and I know most of my friends saw the first Madagascar movie and loved it. Perhaps because of many of the jokes and some of the meaning behind the movie, it can please a bigger age range. I assume in the second Madagascar there is a range of the maturity of the jokes in it, never becoming inappropriate. That is how the first one was at least, staying mostly with slapstick comedy. This movie would also more appeal to people who enjoy a funny movie, rather than a serious one.

The Madagascar movies seem like any other cute cartoon, are they really just the same though? I believe they are not, they do have deeper meaning than many other animated movies, such as the majority of Disney films. These movies show the importance of friends (or family). There’s no place like home, this displays the truth behind that statement as well. Although Madagascar and Africa and beautiful and free, the four friends miss their home in the New York Zoo greatly. This makes the Madagascar movies a good choice for children, teaching them about friendship and sticking together.

I’m not sure how Madagascar 2 will turn out but I assume it will be quite similar to the original movie. Set in a different location, with different problems, the two movies will still probably seem very alike. I expect there will be very much of the same slapstick humor, and funny friendship problems.
