Out With The Old, In With The New!

When it comes to Hollywood, producers seem to have an innate urge to never be satisfied with the classics. Movies are constantly being re-envisioned, rebuffed, re-EVERYTHING. But has a remake ever been better than the original? Producers usually justify their actions by saying that they are simply trying to make a movie more applicable to modern times or pay homage to the original, but frankly I think they're just being damn lazy. Instead of trying to come up with an original idea they just go back and take someone else's idea, add a little special effects, make things louder, bigger, brighter, faster, and whala! call it their own.

Well they're at it again and this time with one of my favorite childhood movies. Escape to Witch Mountain originally premiered in 1975 and followed the plight of a pair of telekinetic twins named Tony and Tia. Exciting, adventurous, and at times a bit scary, I remember being fascinated with it. So why is this perfectly good movie being remade? And why, of all people, is it starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson?? My question is this: Why does Hollywood keep remaking movies? It's not like the original film has just vanished from existence; it's sitting right there at the video store, free for anyone to enjoy.
