Let the Right One In

If you see any vampire movie this season I would STRONGLY suggest you skip over Twilight and instead go see Let the Right One In, a Swedish vampire movie like nothing you've ever seen before. The main character is a twelve year old boy named Oskar, a lonely outcast who is mercilessly bullied at school. Things start to change when he meets a strange girl named Eli who moves into the apartment next to his. The two of them quickly develop a strong bond but Oskar starts to notice there is something weird about Eli; she walks around barefoot in the snow and doesn't get cold, she only comes out at night, and she can't eat food without throwing up. At same time the town begins to experience gruesome murders and it doesn't take Oskar long to start figuring out that Eli has something to do with it. But what are you supposed to do when the girl you love is a monster?
Let the Right One In is a dark and unnerving fantasy and the most realistic vampire movie I've ever seen. I would definitely recommend this movie. It's classified as a horror film but I thought it was more of a character and relations study, as well as raising questions of morality such as is it okay to kill in order to survive?, and is revenge justifiable? But it is definitely very creepy and violent and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

So now for the bad news: it's already being remade in America for all those lazy people who refuse to read subtitles! Yet another example of Hollywood taking something that is already perfect and crapping all over it. So before this wonderful movie is ruined you should all go take a look at it (it's playing at the Lagoon in uptown) or at least rent it when it comes out on video.
