Want to fight Cloud as Tidus? Prepare to do so.

Anyone who is a Final fantasy faithful is anticipating the Smash Brothers of Square Enix, titled Final Fantasy Dissidia. Dissidia, as seen from various gameplay videos (Square's presentation only, no demos) is a free-roaming fighting game, none of that side-scrolling Street Fighter or Soul Calibur element. You can actually run in a fully interactive environment. You can hide behind obstacles and avoid magic attacks, and even climb walls and strike down on an unexpecting enemy with a down slash. And to boot, the levels are fairly diverse and large for a two on two battle; Halo-esque face off, anyone?

The element that obviously makes this game is the diverse mash-up of charecters, every good and bad charecter from every Final Fantasy game from I to X. Want to remake a battle against Cloud and Sephiroth? Go ahead, play your Sephiroth fanfare while you're at it. Want to make Zidane go against Garland? Be my guest, or should I say be Square Enix's guest? To top it off, there actually is a factor from old FF games that still holds it's name even in this version of Final Fantasy, and that would be the leveling up system. The more you fight, the stronger you get. Could this be the game that gives reason to buying a PSP? We will have to see.
