Choosing Between Ignorance and Anger

Obama gave a speech last week and someone was a jerk about it. Big surprise. Someone's always getting up in arms about something the president said, whether our Commander in Chief is a Democrat or Republican. However, this nationally televised address to Congress on the topic of health care was a shocking news story because a certain representative named Joe Wilson not only talked trash about Obama after the professional gathering of our country's leaders, but screamed "You liar!" in the middle of it all!

Okay, so he truly thought Obama was lying when he refuted the right wing claim that his health care plan would provide for illegal immigrants. Even if the president was indeed telling the truth (there's a difference between a lying politician on the campaign trail and the president addressing the entire nation trying to set things straight), the man has the right to think he's lying. But here's the rub: Wilson probably not only threw his public temper tantrum because he got overly angry, but he probably thought he was sending a message via media as well that would be a lot more notable than just calling Obama a liar on a TV show the day after the speech.

This is sad not only for Mr. Joe Wilson, but for the American people. Why? Because in his attempt to oust Obama for being dishonest, he made not only himself look like an idiot, but made the entire Republican party look like loud-mouthed crybabies, which is completely untrue. Now because of this influential moment in the media, the American people have to choose between blindly following their president (since this happened, I haven't heard one news program actually talk about the immigrant issue in his health care bill) and employing dumb criticism of their president such as "You liar!" How insightful, Mr. Wilson. Thanks for opening my eyes and seeing how the media's coverage of government really works - not by the issues, but by the idiots who yell and whine in government.
