Review of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is a unique take on the usually stereotypical, sap-filled teen romance comdey. It stars Micheal Cera and Kat Dennings as the title roles. The plot follows each of the teens in a madcap race around New York City in search of a secret concert performed by their mutually favorite band, Where's Fluffy. Add in a missing drunk girl, a van of Nick's gay band mates, and numerous encounters with the pairs' obnoxious exes' and you have a movie.

Lead Actors Micheal Cera and Kat Dennings

Infinite Playlist is at times a bit too realistic (long and awkward pauses between the two main stars) and at others quite unbelievable (after a night of long silence scattered with random bickering the teens are suddenly head-over-heels in love?) but it's unique plot and memorable characters make it well worth the ride. Micheal Cera is a bit type-cast as the awkward but lovable geek but is always fun to watch. At the same time his co-star, Kat Dennings, also brings a bright and witty presence to the screen. The supporting cast members are original and make the movie all the more enjoyable. The entire cast is almost completely teen characters, without the appearance of any parents, which gives the movie a unique twist.

Musician Devendra Banhart
The movie also features a brilliant soundtrack that any Indie music fan will appreciate, including artists such as the Islands, Vampire Weekend, and Devendra Banhart (Banhart even drops in for a quick cameo at a supermarket).

Infinite Playlist was an overall satisfying film although I'm not quite sure it was worth the ten dollars to see it in theaters, but I would definitely recommend it, especially when it comes out on video.
